Welcome

Philanthropy is an act rooted in hope. Hope that others may have the opportunity to be formed by the same institution that shaped you or your children; hope that when faced with the most trying of circumstances, someone will be afforded the same extraordinary support you or your family member received.

Philanthropy is the art of the possible. It’s the palpable mix of pride and fear when the goodbyes are said at move-in weekend and the unbridled joy at commencement – made possible, in part, by a donor-funded scholarship. It’s the dropping of shoulders and dissipation of anxiety when a positive prognosis is received – made possible, in part, by donor-funded research.

Philanthropy is a social good. It’s given wings to some of our country’s foremost academic institutions, facilitating the creation of new knowledge and lifting generations of families. It’s stood up public libraries, community centers, arts organizations, places of worship, and myriad other places and programs that make up and galvanize our communities.

We love facilitating philanthropy through our work. We’ve devoted our professional lives to the field, and you’ll find insights advancement best practices here, as they inform all of our professional engagements. But you’ll also find references to the things that are bringing us hope, reminding us of the art of the possible, and examples of social good. We’re curious about the world, and we think you are, too – that’s a hallmark of the best advancement professionals.

Welcome to McDermott Philanthropy.
